From Highway Tragedy to Victorious Strides: The Recovery Journey of Nandi the Bull

On a stormy midnight along the Majiwada flyover junction in Thane, our emergency hotline received a panicked call from a truck driver. A massive Desi bull had been clipped by a trailer, leaving him pinned under the steel safety barrier, unable to stand, bleeding profusely from deep pelvic wounds.
Our emergency hydraulic ambulance reached the spot within 22 minutes. Lifting an 800-kilogram injured bull in midnight highway conditions is one of the most perilous rescue operations imaginable. Using specialized padded lifting slings, our team transferred him into the vehicle with extreme tenderness.
Initial X-rays at the PPN surgical unit confirmed a compound pelvic fracture alongside deep necrotic lacerations infested with maggots. Conventional protocol might have suggested euthanasia, but at Pashupatinath Mahadev Goshala Charitable Trust, every cow and bull is regarded as an embodiment of the sacred. Euthanasia was out of the question.
The first 72 hours were critical. After thorough debridement under local anesthesia, Dr. Priya Deshmukh and our surgical team placed external orthopedic splints while stabilizing his electrolytes with continuous IV infusions. We supplemented modern pharmaceuticals with classical Ayurvedic pastes—virgin neem oil, organic turmeric root extract, and desi cow ghee—to stimulate rapid cellular tissue regeneration.
By week three, Nandi began trying to lift his forequarters. Volunteers took turns sitting beside him, feeding him tender green Napier grass blended with pure gur (jaggery) to keep his morale resilient.
Last Sunday—day 42 post-accident—Nandi stood unassisted on all four limbs for 18 minutes, bellowing a deep, resonant rumble that brought tears to the eyes of every sevadar present. His courage demonstrates that love, medical excellence, and relentless seva can conquer even the darkest traumas.
